AN IDEA FOR A LASTING CREATIVE PROJECT

HI
I have been thinking how cool it would be to make a Space for God prayer book, since we all pray in such different and amazing ways, includiong ritual, movement, art, writing, speaking, singing etc. I was intially thinking of approaching Katishe to illustrate something I pulled together out of bits and pieces, but then I thought, it would be awesome to make a creative collective lasting project in the form of a large scrapbook style prayer book that could live in the church as a lasting testement to Space for God. What do you all think? It could have collages, paintings, photographs/documentation of rituals etc, poems and prayers, records of events, song words, verses etc. We have a enough creative types that we could make the pages look lovely and we could group into themes around the topics of a few favorite weeks or something. What do you all think? If you are keen we could have a box to gather the pieces in and we could publish draft outlines on the web ( I am happy to do that). I will be home in the first half of next year so we could set a deadline to have it happening and we could have a workshop or workshops to finish it? It seems within our ability and collective lack of time to create and would be a lovely thing to do. Any thoughts?

  • Hi Bek and everyone,

I think the idea is fabulous. We began discussing it at Space for God and this Sunday night we will begin by making a collage that speaks to/of the themes from our worship over the past few months.

Today I bought some A3 card (to be used landscape) as the first pages of the book. I am wondering if we should leave a 2-3 cm space on the left of each page so that none of the text or images get cut off when it’s time to bind the book?

  • Ideas from Katishe on the Space for God Resource Scrap Book…

This book could have many uses- a resource for inspiration, a tool for recording, reflecting, reminiscing, a way for us to communicate our ideas and plans. This book could be a real reflection of our
community: a colourful collective portrait of Space for God that can be continually contributed to (so changing shape as our community changes.)

The scrap book could include sections on prayers (of all different forms), songs, reflections on past themes that have inspired people, past events/retreats
(including any photographs taken), fundraising ideas, future issues/themes people are interested in discussing, social justice and whatever else anyone can think of!

If this book is to echo the many different shapes, colours and characters in our community then it would
be great if all of us contribute our own little
    flavour to it.

You don’t have to be “arty” to contribute. Any ideas are welcome- no matter how silly and not well thought out! And this is one place (for those of you who like to blog or for anyone who may be browsing this site) to share ideas…

  • YAY!That’s fnatastic news that Katishe is on board I am so happy.
As to the book if it is ongoing rather then a one off project will it be hard to get momentum? Will it fizzle after Katishe’s employment runs out? I was thinging if it had an end we could present it to the Chester St Space?
Anyhow, very excited its all happening and looking forward to being part of it. I have a group of prayers to contribute.
