Last week we journeyed with Velcrow Ripper to the "ground zeroes" of this world. We travelled through the minefields of Cambodia, to post-9/11 New York, the toxic wasteland of Bhopal and to the ever-present conflict between Israel and Palestine. Ripper also took us to war-ravaged Afghanistan, as well as to Bosnia and Hiroshima, both of which continue to suffer many years after the respective wars that plagued them have ended. You can find more information about the film at www.scaredsacred.org.
Ripper showed us that even in the barren soil of human misery and misanthropy, the seeds of hope can be planted. Through responding to hatred with grace, even the most tragic of human circumstances can be transformed and redeemed. We learn that we are not bound to laws of karmic consequence. We have a choice about how we respond to the violence of others.
This Sunday, we welcome your responses to Scared Sacred. In particular, you might like to ask yourself some of the following questions:

I think that while the first and most obvious response is anger and resentment this will not lead anyone anywhere when they are the ones who are in that position. The only thing that will get you anywhere in terms of how to live the rest of your life is forgiveness. We westerners hate that word but its true. Forgiveness is the only way that you can stop yourself from hurting you and others. It is also what will stop you from changing into someone you would rather not be anyway.
