Conversation, Creativity, Scripture, Story.
On Sunday 14th June myself and 4 other 'youngish' people took part in an Eremos event called 'Yearning for Spiritual Nourishment.' The purpose of the event was to look at the ways in which the journey toward spiritual nourishment manifests in our lives.
The first hour was spent hearing from the panel. It soon became clear that it was impossible for us to speak of spiritual nourishment without speaking about the totality of our life. The 'yearning' for spiritual nourishment was not a topic that could be treated in isolation from all those things that form and occupy us; history, work, relationships, culture etc. The conversation, therefore, was rather biographical in nature, allowing listeners an intimate glimpse into the lives of the panel.
Following this was a more general discussion with questions taken from those in attendance, including some rather pointed questions about spiritual 'depression' and the role of tradition in shaping spiritual identity.
It was a real pleasure to be involved in an discussion of this nature. I'd like to say a big thank-you to Steph Gesling for organizing this event and asking me to be involved.
After the forum closed Steph, Tim and Carlyn took part in an interview on John Mcleary's ABC program. For those of you keen to hear the interview, please check out:

My only complaint about the event: Ryan, your talk was way too short :-) Speaking of spiritual ‘depression’, it reminds me of my half-joke about being spiritually ‘challenged’, which is not unlike being mentally or even physically ‘challenged’!
